This is a wonderful memoir by former U.S. President George W. Bush, my favorite President. The book notes memorable Decision Points that effected his life …
The Race is On!!
Justin and I decided our 2011 New Year’s resolution would be a Race to Read, a friendly competition to read as many books as we can in 2011. {Side note: Nothing is ever a “friendly” competition between me and Justin. We are both too competitive.} I received a memoir by my most favorite U.S. President, George W. Bush, Decision Points, as a Christmas gift. {from Mama, Mrs. Teresa, & Justin*, yes 3 books! Guess they know how much I love G.W.}
Skip a few days… Justin and I are road-tripping to Helen, Georgia for a mini-vaca {with Kyle and Kaitlin} before the hustle and bustle of school, work, and life are back! On our trip, Justin offered to read to me some of my new book. Low and behold, we were hooked. We rotated {based on whose turn it was to drive} reading excerpts from Decision Points. About 3 chapters in, we discover that George W. Bush and Karl Rove once had a book reading competition. They kept up with the number of books, pages, and words they read. In the end, Karl Rove won the competition. A few pages later Justin says, “We should have a book reading competition.” So, why not?! Reading is fabulous for us, right?
And that is how our Race to Read began! We will see who can read the most, while keeping track of the number of books, pages, words! As of today, I am losing {Which I thought would NEVER happen, seeing as Justin doesn’t typically enjoy reading} but do not fear, I will reign in the end! And, rumor has it that Mr. Barry {Justin’s dad} has joined our Race to Read and is soaring ahead of us both. So…. the race is on!!
To keep up with our “friendly” competition throughout 2011, follow the Race to Read.
*Justin’s copy of Decision Points came with a very, special autograph. Check it out, I couldn’t have been more excited!
