A Woman Named Jackie

As some of you may know, my fascination with history {especially American history} has grown tremendously over the past few years. Because of this, it has effected the types of literature I enjoy reading in my spare time. This book was picked up by my mom at a yard sale held by Papa Leggett and his new wife Jennie. Around the time they were married, there was a problem of too much stuff between the both of them and the solution was that some of it had to go! Mama was going through some of Jennie’s old books, and discovered this jewel. I actually began reading this biography back in December {took me awhile huh?!} but after Christmas I did something I’d never done before – pause reading a book for another one. {Confession – I put G. W. before Jackie O. whoops!}

A Woman Named Jackie 2

A Woman Named Jackie claims to “unravel[s] the riddle of the world’s most famousand elusive woman, capturing the complexities and contradictions of her life and character.” I can attest that is was a fabulous recap of the life of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Jackie was the daughter of Black Jack Bouvier and Janet Bouvier Auchincloss. Later in life, Jackie met and married the infamous and future President John F. Kennedy. It was this marriage that defined Jackie’s fame. With JFK, Jackie had three beautiful children: Caroline, John Jr., and Patrick.  The biography portrayed Jackie’s life from childhood, marriage, First Lady, motherhood, a widow, public figure, and her remarriage to a Greek billionaire. I learned so much from this biography and my fascination with the Kennedy family has expounded. To feed this fascination, I found out a few weeks ago that REELZ channel has picked up The Kennedy’s, an eight part movie series originally filmed for the History Channel. Due to the controversy surrounding the Kennedy legacy, the History Channel decided to drop the series. Needless to say, I couldn’t be more excited when I realized thanks to the REELZ channel, I would be able to see the dramatic portrayal of the infamous Kennedy family. The count down has begun and finishing this book today could not have been better timing. The Kennedy’s, featuring Greg Kinnear, Barry Pepper, and Katie Holmes, will air on Sunday, April 3rd. {Eeek, can’t wait!!!} Click Here to watch the movie series clip.

{Notice the taped together book. The book was weathered and worn – as a result, at different points throughout the book, I had to tape the cover, back, and spine back together.}

A Woman Named Jackie

I have been through a lot and I have suffered a great deal. But I have had lots of happy moments as well. I have come to the conclusion that we must not expect too much from life. We must give to life at least as much as we receive from it. Every moment one lives is different from the other. The good, the bad, hardship, the joy, the tragedy, love and happiness are all interwoven into one single indescribable whole that is called LIFE. You cannot separate the good from the bad. And, perhaps, there is no need to do so either.
