Having not read “The Book,” while living in Savannah and working for Visit Savannah – well, that just wasn’t right. So, I picked up John Berendt’s 1994 novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. This narrative is known to true Savannahians as simply, “The Book.” The Book describes the characters and experiences Berendt encountered while living in Savannah. Throughout The Book you meet outrageous personalities such as The Lady Chablis, The Lady of 6,000 Songs, Jim Williams, and Sonny Seiler. I’ve heard many tourist say, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil inspired me to visit Savannah.” However, after living here – I enjoyed reading about familiar architecture, streets, and tales.
