homemade signs

Recently, I’ve been brainstorming ways to decorate on a budget, more than usual I should say. With 4th of July celebrations and birthday dinners, it’s been challenging – because, who wants to continuously buy new decor? Not me.

So, I got innovative. Or just really creative and cheap, pulled out some old scraps of wood, slapped some festive colored paint on ‘em… voila!

  • Step 1. Find the perfect, scrap piece of wood. (If you want it to stand alone as a centerpiece, make sure it has at least one flat surface for standing.)
  • Step 2. Pick your favorite colors, or the ones most festive for the occasion. Paint, paint, paint.
  • Step 3. Let it dry and do the same to the other side. Voila!

Now you have an easy breezy, homemade sign for your special celebration/holiday.

Did you know you can buy scraps of wood from Lowe’s and Home Depot for literally 0.25¢? Yep, you read it correctly… 0.25¢! Some of them are 0.10¢ or 0.50¢, but come on – it’s still cheaper than the dollar menu at McDonald’s. Four scraps for $1 and you’ve got a birthday, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas signs. For you $2, you can add Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, President’s Day, and Halloween to your decorative signs.

Try it out. Let me know how it goes. Show me your work of art. Please and thank you.
